Not much is known about the young Philidelphia rage rapper DAYSTARR. The artist, who began releasing music in 2021, sounds like a bit like mix of a young Trippie Redd and and a modern Destroy Lonely. His debut album, Starrland, which released in 2022, began to gain him a bit of traction on lower level aspects of social media, moslty due to a feature from 1400 signed artist K Suave. In 2023, DAYSTARR released his sophomore album, Model Music, and it's a trip. The seven-song project is a top notch mix of upbeat adreanaline rap, but also incorporates some heavy R&B like snyths. To this day, how unknown Model Music is extremely mind boggling. It contains some of the rage genre's best songs, and it carries a case as the best album released last year. DAYSTARR, though he hasn't dropped anything recently, has the potential to take his career anywhere.
Though DAYSTARR's best work is likely on Model Music, he's shown solid consistency throughout his young career. He delivered one of the best album intros of the 2020s with Welcome to Starrland which demonstrates a beautiful, melodic, and unique sound. His third song put on streaming services, Psychadelic, showcases his versatility with vocals that resemble a young JUICE WRLD. He previewed Model Music with an elite single titled Swag Talk, which will have you floating, and talks a lot about clothes. The three opening songs on Model Music are a textbook example of how you open an album. He opens with Too Sexy, which is something that is best just to hear yourself, nobody else sounds like that. Too Sexy proved that he's the real deal, no matter what genre of music you usually find yourself listening to. Swag Talk follows, and the third track, Model Music is gold to any fan of rage, as he truly does perfect his sound on this one. On this track, he emphasizes how this lifestyle and fashion is nothing new to him, as he raps, "They like DAYSTARR how you get like that, swear I've been on this sh*t since a kid." He cruises on this one on another level, with a flow that we do see occasionally on Model Music. He is a bit critiqueable in this sense, as though his flow is elite, he does flow very similarly on three songs on this album: Model Music, Poppin (Intrelude), and My Closet. Vogue carries a sound that you don't really hear anywhere else, either. Every song on this is a ten except the final one, On Me, but no artist is perfect. Since Model Music, DAYSTARR has been very active on soundcloud, releasing many singles, and an EP titled For My Fans Vol. 1. He's released two songs on streaming surfaces, Met Gala and Designer Clothes. As of recent, he's been sticking to his rage-adreanaline rap type of sound, but has also incorporated a bit more of a rock-sound on tracks like Rockstarr Sh*t. DAYSTARR has also been teasing two different projects on social media, R-Rated Starr and Sexy Sounds, but we're yet to recieve them.
If DAYSTARR wants to gain the recognition that he needs, it's smartest for him to do something that nobody else in the scene is doing. To truly make the impact on the music scene in the way that he's capable, it would be smartest for DAYSTARR to emphasize his versatility in future work, as opposed to sticking with the same sound. The talent is more than there, he's more talented than pretty much every rapper thats found internet success in the age of social media. It's all in his hands, the question just becomes how badly he wants it.
